Crochet Pattern: Popcorn Flower

Popcorn Flower (flower only)

Popcorn Flower Water Lily Pad Granny Square

THIS FLOWER IS NOT MY PATTERN.
It is the property of Christina Budd of Christina’s Sunshine Haven

I edited the pattern only for clarity and to correct errors and omissions.  The original pattern is at Christina’s Sunshine Haven (Popcorn Flower).

Skill level:  Easy

Materials used for flower shown:
Worsted Yarn (weight-4):   Caron's Simply Soft, Lemonade and Off White
Hook size F-5 (3.75 mm)

Size:      3”

Gauge:  Not important, unless you want this flower to remain at 3" to go on a 6" granny square, as shown in picture.  Simply Soft yarn is a thinner worsted, so if you use another brand, you will want to use a smaller hook size.

Stitch Explanation

Popcorn (pc):  Work 5 dc in the same stitch, drop loop from hook, insert hook from front to back in the top of the first dc of group, hook dropped loop and pull through stitch.  Pic tutorial at http://www.dummies.com/crafts/crocheting/stitches/how-to-crochet-popcorn-stitch/
Magic ring (also known as magic circle and adjustable ring):  Tutorial at http://www.crochetspot.com/how-to-crochet-the-magic-adjustable-ring/

Pattern

Beg with top row of flower petals:
Rnd 1:   With yellow, in magic ring, ch 2 (does not count as a st), 14 dc in ring, sk ch 2, sl st in 1st dc to join.  (14 dc)
Rnd 2:   [Work first popcorn:  ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 4 dc in same st, complete pc as in “Stitch Explanation”, above], (ch 3, sk st, pc in next) 6 times, ch 3, sl st in ch-3 sp after 1st popcorn to join.  (7 pc, 7 ch-3 sp)
Fasten off yellow.
Rnd 3:   Attach white with sl st in any ch-3 sp, work first pc as in Rnd 2, ch 3, pc in same sp, ch 3, [(pc, ch 3) twice in next ch-3 sp] 6 times, sl st in ch-3 sp after 1st pc to join.  (14 pc, 14 ch-3 sp)
Rnd 4:   (Ch 1, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sl st) in same ch-3 sp), [sl st, ch 1, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sl st) in next ch-3 sp] 13 times.  (14 petals)
Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

To make my center stamen (as shown in picture):
Cut (3) 6” lengths of yarn.  Knot in the middle.  Thread yarn needle with another piece of yarn; run through knot, use to secure knot down to center of flower, weave in end underneath.  At top of flower, cut yarn ends to a 2” length.  Separate each yarn strand with yarn needle.  Trim to desired final length.

Christina's center stamen instructions:
"Take scrap fun fur (I used champagne color) and sew in the center.  Fluff and tie it off through hat."  (Flower was used as a hat decoration).
