Crochet Pattern: Newborn Ugg Booties

BABY UGG BOOTIES

Design and Original Pattern by Pam from Pamapaloza

This is in no way, shape or form my pattern!  I just wrote it out the way I could understand it because I was not getting the correct round count (probably operator error on my part).  I also showed a different option of applying the trim because I was not talented enough to do it the way she had outlined and have it look right.  Use her pattern (link above), but if you run in to trouble, maybe these notes will help.

Newborn (3-1/2” sole).  Use larger hooks for larger sizes.

Edit 06-13-15:  My newborn grandson's foot was 4.5" so be sure to check gauge on the finished sole length!

According to yarn label.

TRIM AND FINISHING TOUCHES

Tie elastic to first marked stitch. Weave elastic from st mark to st mark across front of boot (use picture as a guide).  Tie off at second st mark.  (It is okay if it shows; it will be covered with trim yarn).  Weave in ends of elastic.

Option 1 (my method):
Others may find the next option (Pam's) easier, but I just couldn't get it to look right, so I used a different method.  It is the one I used to finish the boots in the picture.

Use picture as a guide.  Attach trim yarn with ss to side of boot at top, ch 1, sc in each sc around, join w ss to first sc.  Turn to continue down side of boot now.  Ss down each row to bottom st where elastic begins. Continue by turning up and ss in each st along line of elastic, around top of boot down to other elastic end.  Turn to ss up other side of boot to top of boot.  Finish off and weave in ends.

Option 2 (this is Pam’s method from her original pattern):
Thread  tapestry needle with trim color (threaded button-style using both strands of thread).  Make long enough  so you do not have to tie off and re-thread.
Tie on at last sc.
Oversew/overcast each sc around top.*
(When stitching with fuzzy trims like baby clouds use loose stitches to better simulate the sheepskin look).
Tie off.
Rethread needle only using only 1 strand for side and top stitches. Tie on at side of boot top directly above where elastic was tied off.
Using a backstitch, stitch in a straight line down to elastic.*  Continue using back stitch following over top of elastic to other side of boot, then continue up to top of the boot.  Tie off and weave in ends.

* How to backstitch and over-sew:  Alternative Stitches
